We’ve seen it time and again. A person or a business that has incredible talent, incredible ingredients, or incredible opportunity to really change the game. There is one component that is a needed catalyst in today’s market: HUSTLE.

HUSTLE is what has the business leader pounding on his keyboard or pounding the pavement 5:45 on the Friday of a holiday weekend. HUSTLE is what has the market leader personally responding to tweets, forum posts and general customer service emails. HUSTLE will differentiate between the thought leader and the fast follower. The one who HUSTLES the most, defines the market.

Question: Will your business define the market or be defined by the market? It comes down to who is willing to HUSTLE the most.

Participatory Marketing the “Bigger Picture” for Social Media

Brands have to participate to interact with consumers. Common buzz terms like “1.0 versus 2.0” crop up. Gary Vaynerchuk tells brands to “get in the trenches” in this blunt and accurate video. Douglas White calls it “broadcast versus engagement” in this excellent article. Everywhere marketers go, people are looking for one thing—interaction!

Consumers want to interact with a brand. This forces businesses to share their brand with interested communities of people. Thus brands must allow consumers to participate in the brand experience. This coins the term “participatory marketing” and leads businesses down a path where their brand is no longer their own. And that can be a good thing.
