Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center (SBVC)

In 2006, we took over the annual Visitor Guidebook design and publication and magazine ad campaign for this non-profit business organization in Sturgeon Bay, WI. In 2008, we won a hotly contested bidding contest for a much-needed website redevelopment project. The finished site can be easily managed and updated in real time, and will be a rich interactive user experience, with social media capability, video clips, online booking, and streaming content-a must in the competitive world of online tourist marketing.

It started with a logo redesign, but changes in the firm initiated a complete new identity package for this growing legal practice in Delavan, WI. When the creative dust settled, they had a new logo, letterhead, marketing materials, print ads, a Signalfire print management system, and a new website. We handled it all—from concept to graphic design to photo shoots—we even got them to smile! In 2007, we managed the complete launch of a new brand—an online legal services firm. The most recent project was a television commercial for their Southern Wisconsin market.

Participatory Marketing the “Bigger Picture” for Social Media

Brands have to participate to interact with consumers. Common buzz terms like “1.0 versus 2.0” crop up. Gary Vaynerchuk tells brands to “get in the trenches” in this blunt and accurate video. Douglas White calls it “broadcast versus engagement” in this excellent article. Everywhere marketers go, people are looking for one thing—interaction!

Consumers want to interact with a brand. This forces businesses to share their brand with interested communities of people. Thus brands must allow consumers to participate in the brand experience. This coins the term “participatory marketing” and leads businesses down a path where their brand is no longer their own. And that can be a good thing.
